You should be able to put CC=<whatever you want> in the main Makefile and
your complier will pick it up.

Okay, but _where_?  In the Makefile?  If so, which one(s)?  In the default
compiler options?  If so, where do those live?

Sorry, but I'm a novice when it comes to more than make, make install,
make clean and google is of little help with "setting compiler options
aix".
