Subject [users@httpd] rewrite and pdf files
Date Tue, 16 Sep 2003 11:51:54 GMT

Hello,

I have the following configuration for a virtual host:

<VirtualHost 1.2.3.4:80>
        ServerName      my-server
        ServerAlias     my-server my-alias
        RewriteEngine   On
        RewriteCond     %{HTTP_HOST}    ^my-alias*
        RewriteRule     ^\/(.*)$          http://%{HTTP_HOST}/my-alias-subdir/$1
        DocumentRoot    /my-websource
.
.
.
</VirtualHost>

I have /my-websource/my-alias-subdir/test.pdf

Using IE:
When I open http://my-server/my-alias-subdir/test.pdf, then the pdf document is
displayed correctly in the acrobat plugin.
When I open http://my-alias/test.pdf, there comes a dialog asking me to download
the file, no other choice.

It works as it should (open acrobat also when using the rewritten alias url) in
both netscape and opera.

I read some postings about problems with pdf and ie but none regarding my
problem with rewritten urls. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

best regards,
Thomas
