  Atexit() is defined in stdlib.h, which, unless I am mistaken, means it
exists in libc.  Now, if libc is being linked in, but atexit() is still not
found, it suggests that stdlib.h and libc are out of sync.  In other words,
there is something fundimentally wrong with your build environment.

  If I were you, I would roll everything back to a stock system, re-install
my build environment and run configure again.
