Subject Re: [users@httpd] [ADMIN] Delivery Status Notification (Failure)
Date Fri, 22 Aug 2003 17:14:20 GMT
This is most likely due to a virus ( SOBIG.F ) which is going around. It
forges messages by setting the "From" header to a random address found in an
infected computer's address book. It's not the fault of the mail client,
(except for being vulnerable to such viruses ^^). I've been getting
undeliverable messages since about Monday or Tuesday, from messages I never
sent. I.e. some people on the list have my address in their address book
and they got infected because they're not running a virus scanner. So
please people, get a virus scanner, any way you can, and update the virus
definitions, and scan your entire system (all drives, inside archives,
program files, everything) at least once a day (i.e. set it to run each
night).

Leif

P.S. Since about Monday or Tuesday, all my posts to this list and others
have been lagging or randomly not showing up. I suspect my ISP's (Charter)
Communigate mail server is being swamped by mails from all the infected
computers or maybe they changed some queue settings. Anyways, sorry if
responses to questions come in a day later. ;-)
