Subject [users@httpd] LimitRequestBody problem
Date Wed, 02 Jul 2003 16:04:06 GMT
Hello All,
This is regarding a problem with 'LimitRequestBody' directive and I have
given the description below.

Thanks for spending time to read this mail.

Regards,
Anbu

Problem Description:
With LimitRequestBody set in the httpd.conf file, large client requests
get browser error with no error message being displayed from the apache
web server. Even though the apache logs show that
a 413 error has occurred.

Example 1 successful apache error message is displayed on client browser

httpd.conf with LimitRequestBody 200000
   Client posts a 1meg file,
Apache gets a 413 error message and displays it back to the client
browser
   Apache access file -
        - - [24/Jun/2003:08:17:22 -0400] "POST /cgi-bin/showenv
HTTP/1.0" 413 409
   Apache error log -
       [Tue Jun 24 08:17:22 2003] [error] Request content-length of
1025735 is larger than the configured limit of 200000

Example 2 failure, apache error message is not displayed on client
browser

httpd.conf with LimitRequestBody 200000
   Client posts a 10meg file,
Apache gets a 413 error message - yet browser gets a network error.
   Apache access file - - - [24/Jun/2003:08:17:44 -0400] "POST
/cgi-bin/showenv HTTP/1.0" 413 409
   Apache error.log - [Tue Jun 24 08:17:44 2003] [error] Request
content-length of 10241719 is larger than the configured limit of
200000

Netscape browser gets a popup window -
A network error occurred while Netscape was sending data.
       (Network Error: Connection aborted)
       Try Connecting again.

IE - gets the generic IE error page saying cannot find dns server....
