My first guess would be a DNS issue, as this indicates the request isn't
reaching Apache. Does a lookup on www.anotherdomain.tld resolve to the same
IP as www.mydomain.tld?

If it does, do a telnet to www.mydomain.tld 80 and tell Apache to:

GET / HTTP/1.1
Host: www.anotherdomain.tld

What do you get?
