My apologies, I forgot to mention I'm running apache 1.3.27-1.7.2 on
RedHat Linux 7.2 with a default RPM install with all the available mods
([root@jan-jr-ent root]# httpd -l
Compiled-in modules:
suexec: enabled; valid wrapper /usr/sbin/suexec; extra mod's installed
via RPM at time of initial Apache install:
	mod_auth_any	1.2.2-2
	mod_auth_mysql	1.11-1
	mod_auth_pgsql	0.9.9-2
	mod_bandwidth	2.0.2-2
	mod_dav 1.0.2-6
	mod_perl	1.26-2
	mod_put 1.3-1
	mod_python	2.7.8-1
	mod_roaming	1.0.2-4
	mod_ssl 2.8.12-2
	mod_throttle	3.1.2-1)

BTW, any way to disable suexec? I'd rather not have it enabled (and
can't believe it's enabled by default!) without having to just compile
from source?
