  libgcc_s.so.1 is in /usr/local/lib on my Solaris 2.8 boxes where
  gcc was installed from the sunfreeware.com site.

  You may need to add that path to your load library path, either
  by using crle or setting an environment variable,
  such as LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/lib; export LD_LIBRARY_PATH.
  These statements, if used, would best go in the startup script 
  itself.
