This is an odd problem. Things to look at:

- try many different versions of browser (can you try with Opera or
Netscape or anything else?)
- what if you run the browser on the server and so connect directly (not
via network)?
- do you have any virus-checking software on the server or client
(macFee etc.)?
- what if you disable it?
- any network components (bridges, routers etc.) between clientS and
