Try doing "which ar" to see if this is installed or do "find / -type f -name ar -print". If
it's there maybe it's just not in your path??? Should be in /usr/ccs/bin if I remember.

It looks like you need the binutils package. Download them from
http://www.sunfreeware.com/ that should take care of the problem.
You can try putting /usr/ccs/bin in your path and gcc will attempt to use
the Sun version, it may work, depends on the version of gcc.
