Yes I did and I'm following the instructions that are with mod_ssl now I
make it through the configure of mod_ssl and when I go to apache and do a
make this happens

I have installed and configured openssl

Did you apply the mod_ssl changes before you ran the configure. Get the
mod_ssl distribution and follow the instructions in the mod_ssl../INSTALL
file.
