Did you try (assuming /bin/sh):

# LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/lib:/usr/local/lib:/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.3.0
# export LD_LIBRARY_PATH
# ./configure etc

Are the libs in /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.3.0 or /usr/local/BerkeleyDB.3.0/lib ?
Put the appropriate path on the line above.
