Subject [users@httpd] location of online docs from httpd-manual RPM are inconvenient
Date Tue, 25 Mar 2003 13:43:48 GMT

it seems that the online docs installed via the httpd-manual
RPM are in entirely the wrong place to be useful.

that RPM installs a pile of HTML files under the directory
/var/www/manual, and many of those HTML files end with the suffix
".html.en". normally, that wouldn't be a problem since httpd
deals with those files via content negotiation, right?

that means you can't just view those online docs via a
browser -- you're forced to be running the apache server and
browse to localhost.

however (and here's the problem), the directory /var/www/manual
is not beneath the default DocumentRoot, so you can't load those
files through the server.

is this really a bit of a design flaw, or am i missing something
obvious here?
