Subject [users@httpd] Same config error again: Cannot run configure on Solaris 2.6

i get the following on Solaris 2.6:

elias@moses> ./configure  --prefix=/KIM/elias1/apache2
checking for chosen layout... Apache
checking for working mkdir -p... yes
checking build system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.6
checking host system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.6
checking target system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.6

checking build system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.6
checking host system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.6
checking target system type... sparc-sun-solaris2.6

checking for working mkdir -p... yes
APR Version: 0.9.2
checking for chosen layout... apr
checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output... cat: conftest.c: No such file 
or directory
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
check `config.log' for details.
configure failed for srclib/apr

this is the same error as reported by  "Xu, Xiangdong" <xiangdong.xu () 
gs ! com>  on 2003-01-28 22:01:32.
