Yep, I've tried that. I don't know how much it matters, but some more 
details--the system is a raq3. While I haven't had issues with other raq3's 
out there, maybe there is something I'm overlooking. Additionally, if I add a 
user to the system user file (/etc/passwd) it works fine.
