Subject RE: [users@httpd] Apache 2 Problem on Windows
Date Wed, 12 Mar 2003 13:14:44 GMT
Once again, sounds like a firewall problem.

The issue is that a lot of software firewalls come with an incomplete
implementation of the windows socket layer (or something like that), in
other words they're mainly consumer tools and the vendors haven't
allowed for things like webservers.

If you happen to be running McAfee Internet Security, this is a known
issue, and they've been promising a patch for a while now.

The only option at the moment is to remove your firewall / av software,
I know not much of a choice, but there it is.

Subject: [users@httpd] Apache 2 Problem on Windows

I installed Apache 2.0.44 on Windows 2000, when I start the server, one
Apache process keeps a very high cpu usage which is at around +90% (I
just installed the base product without any additional configuration).
I tried that on another machine, and it went ok on the other machine. I
don't have much log to look at and the error log looks fine to me:
[Tue Mar 11 19:42:42 2003] [notice] Parent: Created child process 1696
[Tue Mar 11 19:42:42 2003] [notice] Child 1696: Child process is running
[Tue Mar 11 19:42:42 2003] [notice] Child 1696: Acquired the start
[Tue Mar 11 19:42:42 2003] [notice] Child 1696: Starting 250 worker
[Tue Mar 11 19:44:48 2003] [notice] Parent: Received shutdown signal --
Shutting down the server.
[Tue Mar 11 19:44:48 2003] [notice] Child 1696: Exit event signaled.
Child process is ending.
[Tue Mar 11 19:44:49 2003] [notice] Child 1696: Released the start mutex
[Tue Mar 11 19:44:50 2003] [notice] Child 1696: Waiting for 250 worker
threads to exit.
[Tue Mar 11 19:44:50 2003] [notice] Child 1696: All worker threads have
[Tue Mar 11 19:44:50 2003] [notice] Child 1696: Child process is exiting
[Tue Mar 11 19:44:50 2003] [notice] Parent: Child process exited
Basically the whole machine becomes very slow and I cannot load up the
root page (http://host/). Is there any additional aid (logs, tools)
that can help me to solve this problem?
Kind Regards,
