Subject [users@httpd] error starting apache with SSL
Date Tue, 18 Feb 2003 02:02:19 GMT

Hey, group,

I compiled apache along with mm, mod_ssl, and open_ssl and it starts up,
works, and shuts down fine. However, starting it with SSL yeilds an
error on startup:

# ./apachectl startssl
Syntax error on line 1096 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf:
Invalid command 'SSLEngine', perhaps mis-spelled or defined by a module
not included in the server configuration
./apachectl startssl: httpd could not be started

Line 1096 simply says:

SSLEngine on

The syntax check showed no errors. So I'm guessing the problem has to
do with the "module not included...." Taking a guess that it might
involve the SSL module, I find:

# ls ../libexec/*
../libexec/httpd.exp ../libexec/libssl.so

logs/error_log just shows the stuff that works okay:

[Mon Feb 17 20:20:57 2003] [notice] Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) configured --
resuming normal operations
[Mon Feb 17 20:20:57 2003] [notice] Accept mutex: sysvsem (Default:
sysvsem)
[Mon Feb 17 20:23:26 2003] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down
[Mon Feb 17 20:23:32 2003] [notice] Apache/1.3.27 (Unix) configured --
resuming normal operations
[Mon Feb 17 20:23:32 2003] [notice] Accept mutex: sysvsem (Default:
sysvsem)
[Mon Feb 17 20:28:05 2003] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down

What else can I do to figure out how to get apache running with ssl?

Thanks for any help.
