On mozilla on Solaris 8 when I go to www.micro I get redirected
to http://www.micro.com/ 

micro.com isnt even running Apache, it runs  Roxen/3.3.63-release2 on Linux:
http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?mode_u=off&mode_w=on&site=www.micro.com%2F&submit=Examine

Basically I think you are confused, you do not have apache running, if you 
did, then when you telnet to localhost:80 then you should see that apache
is running, unless it is bound to another address.
