I have no idea why you say that.

1. The "*" configuration is the recommended configuration unless you are
doing complex mixing of name and ip/port based vhosts.  It is much easier
to use and less prone to error.

2. This person is not even using the "*" form, so asking them to change it
isn't going to help.
