It's amazing how much I chase my tail sometimes (:P  The module was compiled
in already.  All I had to do was add the following line to my httpd.conf
file and restart apache and my problem was solved:
<IfModule mod_env.c>
SetEnv ORACLE_HOME /u01/app/oracle/product/9.2.0.1.0
</IfModule>
