If the problem is sed - get another sed: have you tried www.gnu.org? Or ask on the Debian list for possible problems with that distro's sed... It's a knotty problem when you get an error from a tool the configure script uses and it usually comes from an incomplete or broken OS/compiler/shell. It is entirely possible that no-one has ever encountered this problem before and so no-one feels they can help..
