Subject RE: [users@httpd] could not bind to port 80
Date Fri, 20 Dec 2002 14:42:27 GMT
One 'gotcha' that I ran into was on a mod_ssl enabled server. I wanted
to be able to start it in both ssl and non-ssl modes, so I added a
Listen <IP:80> statement in the right place. Mod_ssl had added this:

<IfDefine SSL>
Listen 80
Listen 443
</IfDefine>

... so when I started the server in non-ssl mode, it bound to port 80
just fine. When I tried to start it in ssl mode, it died, with a "cannot
bind to socket/port already in use" message. Apache reads the config
file sequentially, and when it came across the first Listen 80
directive, it bound to :80. When it got to the <IfDefine SSL> Listen
directive, it tried to bind again... and failed.

Just something to keep in mind.

Thank you for your reply.

Is there any way to know which configuration in the apache.conf is
crashing
my apache. Error_log does't give me much information. Is there any thing
to
dig it out.
