yeah, the test for db3 is in .../srclib/apr-util/configure. you could probably
just hack that dependency out of the configuration script, i.e., just remove
the code that attempts to link to db3. the makefiles will then be built with
the assumption that libdb-3 isn't available. <br>
<br>
now, i'm not absolutely advocating that, since there may be side-effects.
then again, it may be perfectly reasonable. <br>

  <pre wrap="">thank you!

I don't see a Configure file in those directories. I'm doing random greps
but I'm not sure where to look and for what exactly.

I see:

    <pre wrap="">hi,

i'm actually going to be looking at this later today. the first place to
look is the Configure script, which figures out what libraries are
available on the system, and then builds the makefiles. grep for the
libdb in Configure, either at the root of build or in src/srclib/apr or
src/srclib/apr-util (sic), and see if that says anything.

cheers,
andy

`db_open'

I have the glibc-devel-2.1.3-28 rpm installed, which provides /usr/lib/libdb.so.
I have db3-3.1.17-4.6x installed. I have gdbm-1.8.0-3 installed.

How can I track down the problem here?

strings tells me:
[root@shiraz lib]# strings libdb.so | grep db_open
__db_open

and
[root@shiraz lib]# strings libdb-3.1.so | grep db_open
__db_db_open_1
xdr___db_open_reply
xdr___db_open_msg
__dbcl_db_open
__dbcl_db_open_ret
__db_open

but --

[root@shiraz lib]# strings libdb1.so | grep db_open
[root@shiraz lib]#
