Try doing an apachectl graceful, and then watching your processes in
"top" ... 

I just looked at my system, and each of my httpd processes were hogging
up around 12M, after doing a restart, they're all down around 10k, of
which about 6k is shared, and seem to be staying there.

I figure something on my server is causing a memory leak
somewhere....doubtful that it's apache's fault, probably some CGI script
or something.
