I've got a feeling that this has been a common question...sorry, I can't see
the answer in the FAQs.

I've just installed RedHat Linux 7.3 and tried the version of apache which
comes with it, version 1.3.26 and 2.0.40 but all give me the same problem.
Rather than create the file /var/run/httpd.pid containing the process ID
number it creates an empty file called httpd.mm.****.sem where **** is a 3
or 4 digit number. Because of this httpd gives an error when it tries to
stop and doesn't actually seem to be running in the first place.

Any ideas???

TIA

Martin Hynd.
