Subject [users@httpd] Virtual Hosts and SSL
Date Sat, 21 Sep 2002 13:12:26 GMT
Hello,

I read in the Virtual Host Support page that its impossible to configure

Name-based Virtual Hosts and SSL support. Its said there something like:
"Name-based virtual hosting cannot be used with SSL secure servers
because
of the nature of the SSL protocol."

I was wondering if there is somebody out there who could explain me why
?
I mean I looked all over for an explanation, but couldn't find,
why something like the following won't work :

    Listen 80
    Listen 443

    NameVirtualHost 172.20.30.40:80
    NameVirtualHost 172.20.30.40:443

    <VirtualHost 172.20.30.40:80>
        ServerName www.example1.com
        DocumentRoot /www/domain
    </VirtualHost>

    <VirtualHost 172.20.30.40:443>
        ServerName www.example1.com
        DocumentRoot /www/domainSSL
	  --- all other SSL configuration ---
    </VirtualHost>

Thanks in advance,
And Best Regards ...
Amir.
