I have
---
User wwwrun
---
in my httpd.conf
and
ps -fC httpd
shows
---
UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD
root 12127 1 0 Aug18 ? 00:00:03 /usr/sbin/httpd
wwwrun 12138 12127 0 Aug18 ? 00:00:17 /usr/sbin/httpd
wwwrun 12139 12127 0 Aug18 ? 00:00:16 /usr/sbin/httpd
---

So apache defnitely runs as wwwrun.

And 'su - wwwrun -c groups' shows
---
nogroup testgroup
---

But if apache tries to access a file with mode 750 which has group
testgroup, it reports a permission problem in /var/log/httpd/error_log

So far..
