Did you specify the 'Host: ' header on this telnet request?  If not, that's why.
Try adding 'Host: www.server-1.com' or 'Host: www.server-2.com' to your
telnet request.  Named-based virtual hosting depends on this header.  Otherwise
the first defined host is used.
