Subject Fail to stop the Apache Service (Apache 2.0.40, Win2000).
Date Sat, 17 Aug 2002 09:30:14 GMT
Hi all,

I am running Apache 2.0.40 on Windows 2000 SP3.

>From time to time, I end up with the impossibility to stop or restart the
Apache Service. This does not seems reproducible.
I have never noticed this Pb with Apache 2.0.28 nor 2.0.35. I've only seen
it with 2.0.39, and then 2.0.40.

Symptoms are:
- Using stop (or restart) from the applet: the applet hang. The icon stay as
'running', All buttons are greyed-out.
- The processes are still 'running', but impossible to access the web
server.
- The service contral manager in windows report the service as
'Stopping...', hence even here, start/stop/resart button are greyed out.
- only way out: shutdown.

here is a copy of the log:
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
[Sat Aug 17 09:51:08 2002] [notice] Parent: Received shutdown signal --
Shutting down the server.
[Sat Aug 17 09:51:08 2002] [notice] Child 484: Exit event signaled. Child
process is ending.
[Sat Aug 17 09:51:09 2002] [notice] Child 484: Released the start mutex
[Sat Aug 17 09:51:10 2002] [notice] Child 484: Waiting for 250 worker
threads to exit.
[Sat Aug 17 09:51:38 2002] [notice] Parent: Forcing termination of child
process 232
[Sat Aug 17 09:54:10 2002] [notice] Child 484: Terminating 1878053456
threads that failed to exit.
[Sat Aug 17 09:54:10 2002] [notice] Child 484: All worker threads have
exited.
[Sat Aug 17 09:54:10 2002] [notice] Child 484: Child process is exiting

I believe actions timed at 09:54:10 onwards are initiated by the shutdown.
Any ideas ?

Thanks

Jean-Marc
