Subject source install vs rpm
Date Tue, 02 Jul 2002 16:29:45 GMT
Hi guys

I installed apache 2 via the source by unzipping and then following the
instructions (doing the './configure', 'make', and 'make install').

I was just wondering what's the difference between installing from source
and installing from rpm. WHen i do an 'rpm -ivh apache-2.0.39-0.2.i386.rpm'
i get an error:
error: failed dependencies:
        /usr/bin/getgid is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2
        /bin/id is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2
        rc-scripts is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2
        apr is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2
        db4 is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2
        libapr.so.0 is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2
        libcrypto.so.0.9.6.1 is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2
        libdb-4.0.so is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2
        libssl.so.0.9.6.1 is needed by apache-2.0.39-0.2

Is there any reason why the source install went smoothly and the rmp install
didn't?

Thanks

Desmond
