Subject Apache 2.0.39, sbox and .htaccess files
Date Wed, 10 Jul 2002 09:06:27 GMT
Hello,

I am using Apache 2.0.39 in conjunction with sbox 1.04 in order
to limit the execution of CGI/PHP-scripts in virtual hosts.

AddHandler      php4-handler    .php .php4
Action          php4-handler    /cgi-sbox/sbox

Unfortunately the REMOTE_USER environment variable gets lost, when
limiting access by means of .htaccess. In contrast to this it is
possible to limit the access in the httpd.conf file.

works:
  Virtual Host Config:
    <Location /dir>
        AuthType Basic
        AuthName Test
        AuthUserFile /path/to/file
        Require valid-user
    </Location>

doesn't work:
  .htaccess:
        AuthType Basic
        AuthName Test
        AuthUserFile /path/to/file
        Require valid-user

Is there a special reason, why the REMOTE_USER variable is dropped in
the second case and how can I avoid this behaviour? As there is
supposed to be no difference in calling sbox it seems to be an Apache
topic.

Thanks in advance!

Ciao,
Thomas
