Objet : apache won't start: couldn't create accept lock

Dear friends,

I just got my first version of Apache for linux, v2.0.36. I followed the
INSTALL instructions, and it won't start on my machine (by apachectl start).
The error log file brings the message "function not implemented: couldn't
create accept lock". Any clues?

My system consists of slackware linux 8.0 (with little beyond the basic
packages), kernel 2.4.18. My LockFile is set to a local file. I found no
answers in Google or the list archives.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

    Daniel Araujo
