sorry - i should of been more descriptive.

I need to do this dynamically as i have thousands of customers and don't
want to use entries in the conf file for each one.

I can sort of get it to work with mod_vhost_alias
url  http://domain-com.anotherdomain.com turns out as 
/var/www/domains/d/o/m/www.domain-com/secure_html on the server ( a -com
where it needs to be .com )

for that i used 
VirtualDocumentRoot /var/www/domains/%1.1/%1.2/%1.3/www.%-4+/secure_html

Any ideas would be a great help

You can create a virtual host and set its DocumentRoot to
"/var/www/domains/d/o/m/www.domain.com/secure_html"
or, as a variant, you can use mod_rewrite.
Think of what the main idea of this and tel us it in details, please.
