  I do not know of any other solution than to update.  The documentation
  that I have reviewed makes no mention (aside from Perl 5) as to
  dependencies upon a particular version.  It appears that
  srclib/pcre/dftables.c does not get built properly with Perl 5.005003,
  but I cannot tell you precisely why this seems to be the case.
