Well, the fact that it is the standard MS VPN does make it less likely,
but your argument doesn't follow.  Apache 2.0 uses many different APIs
than Apache 1.3, and therefore tends to tickle different bugs.  The fact
that it works in 1.3 but not 2.0 does not at all prove that there is not a
problem with some software screwing up the winsock APIs.  For a discussion

Anyway, I certainly can't conclusively say the VPN is at fault.  It would
be weird for it to affect only directory indexes.  It is just one place to
look.
