Subject Apache stops taking requests
Date Fri, 17 May 2002 22:35:59 GMT
Hello all,

I'm very new to apache - running the standard version (1.3.20) that's
installed on a basic Mac OSX 10.1 system. It has 4 virtual hosts and PHP
4/MySQL running a very simple web database (2 tables totalling about 5,000
rows)

Periodically (about once a week) we are having apache stop processing
requests. The machine is still running fine but we can't see any web pages.
It doesn't generate any error to the browser - it simply times out the
connection.

Following is from the error_log:

[Sat May 18 07:11:31 2002] [error] (22)Invalid argument: getsockname
[Sat May 18 07:11:31 2002] [error] (22)Invalid argument: getsockname
[Sat May 18 07:11:45 2002] [error] (35)Resource temporarily unavailable:
fork: Unable to fork new process
[Sat May 18 07:11:55 2002] [error] (35)Resource temporarily unavailable:
fork: Unable to fork new process
[Sat May 18 07:12:05 2002] [error] (35)Resource temporarily unavailable:
fork: Unable to fork new process

There are literally thousands of the [error] (35) entries. Could anyone
suggest what the source of this problem might be?

Cheers and thanks

Kim
