Hi, thank you. Isn't it possible to put -Indexes in the .htaccess file
instead of httpd.conf?
I am not the web server administrator, and ...
I've tried putting -indexes in the .htaccess file with no results.

Thank you.

hi,

put a -indexes in the directory clause, so that i t looks like this:

<Directory /var/www/teddy/>
    Options FollowSymLinks -indexes
    AllowOverride All
</Directory>

and make sure that the .htaccess in this directory has a different setting
;)

Hi, thanks. Here are the settings for my virtual host and it seems to be OK:
(But it doesn't let me to hide the indexes)

Any more ideas?

Thanks!

<VirtualHost 194.102.241.1>
ServerAdmin teddy@fcc.ro
DocumentRoot /var/www/teddy/html
ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ "/var/www/teddy/cgi-bin/"
ServerName teddy.fcc.ro
ErrorLog logs/teddy.error_log
CustomLog logs/teddy.access_log common
</VirtualHost>

<Directory /var/www/teddy/>
    Options FollowSymLinks
    AllowOverride All
</Directory>

First off, to help others read your code, why not put a capital "O" on
"Options" - like it does in the documentation.

There are two possible causes of your problem:

(1) Your options settings on multiple lines are a bit confusing. The
rules for merging multiple options are complicated - to avoid ambiguity,
I would put them all on one line, i.e.
Options FollowSymLinks Includes Multiviews

This way, the appearance of explicit options means that exactly and only
those options will be set. This switches off all the others so you don't
even need "-Indexes".

(BTW, you spelt "FollowSymLinks" wrong in your post - hope it's not like
that in the config :-)

(2) Your .htaccess file is not being read. I know you state "I have
rights to use .htaccess files" but you have to be sure. You need a line
like:

AllowOverride Options

in a context that describes this directory.

Rgds,

Owen Boyle.
