Well.. A DNS server needs to be able to accept and answer requests 24/7, so if you are on a dial up you will NOT be able to effectively run your own DNS.. However, if you use the NO-IP system they will give you software you can run on your system that will update your host name or domain name with your current IP number every time you logon to the web, which would be perfect for you. Please note, that if you host your own DNS, and your IP number changes, you will need to change your IP number in your dns servers every time you log on (and get a new number from your ISP), and then it could take up to 48 hours for those changes to be read on the web. By using something like the NO-IP system, these changes are ready in just a few minutes... I would like to install my DNS server because I am on dial up, I pay per minute, and I don't want to stay online non stop. Thanks. You can get around dns by going to http://www.no-ip.com and getting a free host name from them. ----- Original Message ----- From: "My Christian Network" To: Sent: 17-April-2002 9:27 PM Subject: Re: Using multiple virtual hosts? You will need to create your own dns server and point all of your computers at the dns server for it to work. I have it setup as mychristiannetwork.lan at my home.
