you think it's likely to be a module and not a config parameter ?

also, i have one error log for all virtual servers but a lot of
access.logs for around 100 sites. how to see what kind of request is
coming in when the seg fault happens ?

apart from reading the access.log i can't see how to analyse this ...

ok, so this doesn't matter then ... i just leave it that way. apparently
a user who has messed up a error directive.
