in your case the Java Server Pages from the remote server probably 
simply have a timeout.

for me it looks like that
"502 Bad Gateway"
is a very general statement (rfc 2068):
"The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server"
Reasons may be:
- interface defect
- upstream server and the gateway/proxy do not agree on the protocol for 
exchanging data (misconfiguration)
- poor IP communication between back-end computers, chain broken

any other ideas, suggestions?
