I had the same idea...  I tried commenting out all but the ProxyPass, with
no effect.

have you tried commenting out like below, and restartign of course.

#ProxyRequests On
ProxyPass / http://88.8.8.88
#ProxyPassReverse / http://88.8.8.88

I keep reading stuf like this, and it makes me think just using proxypass
might work.

"Reverse proxy allows the public to access your company's web servers that
are not directly accessible from the Internet. (documentation of internal
web servers will be fetched and saved on the reverse proxy)"
