Maybe no-one was very interested since you didn't seem to be asking a
question - more like reporting a stunning effect...

So what changed?

I've spent 5 minutes looking at this but haven't a clue what you're
trying to do or what the stunning effect is... 

can you please Rewrite your posting and describe:

- the input URL
- the URL you want it to change into 
- under what conditions do we do the transformation
- what is it actually changing into
- what does it say in the error_log
- what does it say in the access_log
