I'm testing from a remote system. The server is running
FreeBSD 4.4 & Apache 1.3.22. http://admin.imptech.net is
a password protected area so anyone who might attempt
http://admin.imptech.net/server-status would have to
know the login:password. I'd rather not have the info
available to anyone who puts /server-status after any
of the 30 or so domains on the server.

Okay I guess you are using the pc that the server is on.  More than likely, 
you will be connecting to the server using the loopback device 127.0.0.1  
This does not always, actually rarely, has a name other than lo.  Change the 
allow from ... to include 127.0.0.1, and see if that makes a difference.
