Yes, we already do this. It's the "compatibility" section in the  
directive docs, as seen here: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/trunk/mod/core.html#defaulttype

  just to pick an example at random.

I see that someone beat me to adding it to the CacheLock directive. :)
