Subject [PATCH] My first overhaul of STATUS
Date Sun, 03 Jun 2001 15:14:20 GMT
Ok, I've chicken-pecked at it somewhat, with "questions on the document
itself, instead of the status of the documentation" in square brackets.

Apache HTTP Server 1.3 Documentation Status File.

tutorial on how to get started with making your contribution.

              ------------------------------

Man pages
=========

* The 2.0 documentation tree includes the man pages, but for 1.3 they are
still only in the src/support directory.

[Note: This needs a documenter with CVS commit capability]

XHTML conversion
================

* James A Sutherland <jas88@cam.ac.uk> was going to spearhead this, but we
haven't heard anything lately. Some work is still needed to determine
what the SSIs should look like.

[What type of work is needed? Discussion, or some specialised
  knowledge?]

Cleaning
========

* We could use a list of all the docs that can be axed out of 2.0 because
  they are redundant or irrelevant.

Status: Some suggestions on files to axe (feel free to comment):

    - manual/cgi-path.html (should be documented in mod_cgi.html instead)
    - manual/process-model.html (documented in MPMs, eventually)
    - platform/perf-* (are these relevant anymore?)

[Not sure why this is specified, and if it applies at all to 1.3]

* Individual docs will need some cleanup.

Status: What docs still need to be touched here?

    - invoking.html has had a first-pass cleaning done.
    [What more does it need?]

    - misc/perf-tuning.html - needs major rewrite for 2.0
    [Applies to 1.3?]

    - misc/FAQ.html
o some old questions could be removed
o is a new format in order?
      [I believe discussions are underway]

    - misc/tutorials.html - mostly not relevant to 2.0
    [Relevance to 1.3?]

    - misc/stopping.html

    - dso.html

    - misc/rewriteguide.html - needs cleaning in 1.3 and 2.0
[Considering this file is under the 1.3 tree, do we need any references
    to 2.0 at all?]

    - misc/known_client_problems.html - mostly ancient
[Suggestions on how to prune this are most welcome]

    - howto/*
o some syntax has changed in 2.0 due to filtering and mod_cgid
      [Again, relevance?]

Translations
============

* We appear to have people working on translation into the following
languages. These may just be the 'it worked' page, but if so the authors
of those should perhaps be contacted to help do the rest.. :-) Note that
this list is NOT identical to that for the 2.0 documentation project!
[Relevance of this as we're in the 1.3 tree?]

[Should we attempt to get a known-current authorlist together?]

  - Catalan (.ca)
  - Czech [?] (.cz)
  - German (.de)
  - Danish (.dk)
  - ? (.ee)
[.ee is Estonia is it not?]
  - Greek (.el)
  - Spanish (.es)
  - French (.fr)
  - Hebrew (.he.iso8859-8)
  - Italian (.it)
  - Japanese (.ja.jis)
  - Korean (.kt.iso-kr)
  - ? (.lu)
  - Dutch (.nl)
  - Norwegian (.no)
  - Polish (.po.iso-pl)
  - Portuguese (.pt)
  - Portuguese [Brasilian] (.pt-br)
  - Russian (.ru.cp-1251, .ru.cp866, .ru.iso-ru, .ru.koi8-r, .ru.ucs[248])
  - Swedish (.se)
  - Twi (.tw.big5)
(is that supposed to be Chinese/Taiwanese? Because if so, it is using
    the code reserved for Twi..)
    [Need this clarified]
