Creating new prefixes for externally visible names is always interesting.

I don't see the politics here... Where do I get ASF.apr.rte, whether
it is "ASF" or something else? Does it exist anywhere?

If you're more comfortable with Sourceforge, then maybe that is the
right place. My objection is to putting something unfinished and
barely reviewed in a stable branch. That wasn't your job to
understand. httpd trunk is the place to keep such things until they
are working cleanly there, and then with review* move it back to the
stable branches. That 2.2.x needs different configure invocations than
2.4.x/trunk doesn't change that fact that 2.2.x (and 2.4.x for that
matter) is only for things that are finished and whose external
interfaces are frozen. We should have pointed this out many days ago
after some of the confusion about configure options. It was clear to
some of us but not to you that we should be working only with trunk.
Then when that is as good as it can get then it can go into 2.4.x.
Then .... 2.2.x.

*it isn't as if Michael has to be the Lone Ranger; some on this list
have AIX access day to day; surely some of those can play with it
