Subject Adoption of recent 1.3 releases
Date Wed, 13 Jan 2010 07:20:33 GMT
The attached chart, generated by the SecuritySpace Web Server Survey
from the following query;

http://www.securityspace.com/s_survey/server_graph.html?type=http&domaindir=&month=200912&servbase=YTo1OntpOjA7czoxMzoiQXBhY2hlLzEuMy4zNyI7aToxO3M6MTM6IkFwYWNoZS8xLjMuNDEiO2k6MjtzOjEzOiJBcGFjaGUvMS4zLjM5IjtpOjM7czoxMzoiQXBhY2hlLzEuMy4zNiI7aTo0O3M6MTM6IkFwYWNoZS8xLjMuMzQiO30=&serv1=QXBhY2hlLzEuMy4zMw==

does an interesting job of highlighting the adoption patterns of 1.3 users,
in light of phasing out 1.3. What this doesn't call out is how many of these
users are simply a side-effect of using their vendor's default component.

I would expect that within 6 mos of this release, the vast majority would
be on that new release (typical ramp-up time), or have migrated across to
2.2 knowing that 1.3 is at end of life. This seems consistent with the
list discussion of phasing out 1.3.

It's a shame their "Theft and Upgrades" breakdown is now premium content,
since that report was very useful for identifying a 'broken' release with
respect to users 'downgrading' to a previous, more reliable version :)
