I think this aspect could fit well into apr_xlate_'s api.

In the case of filenames/filesystem - we actually have three nuggets to
navigate; the names of the files, the contents of Readme and the contents
of Header.  So on the fly detection will slow things down considerably for
autogenerated indexes.

Right now, best case, Readme and Header are streamed with sendfile IIRC.
