For debugging purposes, you can pass -X to httpd to prevent it form  
forking and stay in the foreground. Like so:

$ gdb bin/httpd
<...>
(gdb) run -X
Starting program: /Volumes/Files/asf/httpd-2.2.x/bin/httpd -X
<...>
