i've tried CFLAGS="-D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -D_LARGEFILE_SOURCE" and it still 
doesn't work.

i poked around on that ftp site and i couldn't find any files greater than 4GB. 
i found some that were 2GB, but none greater than 4. i would like to try a test 
download of a file that size. do you know of any?
